5D4N When East Meets West

This three-day tour, not including your two travel days, will give you a taste of two of the most interesting destinations in Turkey, Istanbul and Cappadocia.

Cappadocia, located in almost the geographic center of Turkey, is often called the jewel of Central Anatolia.  Its otherworldly landscape is hard to describe.  Perhaps moonscape says it best.  From its conical rock outcrops to its churches, chapels, and homes carved into lava rocks to its underground cities, Cappadocia is like few other places on earth.  Its churches cut into the lava rock date back hundreds of years.  Many are filled with Byzantine religious art.  Its underground cities, some eight floors deep, were built to protect the early Christian inhabitants from invaders.  Your day in Cappadocia will include an open-air museum, a pottery demonstration as well as a driving tour of the various valleys with their unique rock formations of fairy chimneys, mushroom-shaped pinnacles and other unique rock formations.

We will spend two days exploring the historical highlights of amazing, magical Istanbul. Istanbul is unique among the great cities of the world.  It straddles two continents, Europe and Asia.  Its history encompasses three major civilizations of the ancient world: Roman, Greek and Byzantine.  Not to mention its history as the center of the Ottoman Empire.  All that history is visible on almost every street corner with modern buildings perched atop ancient ruins and remnants of ancient walls lining today’s bustling streets.  It is truly a feast for the eyes and mind. The Istanbul tour includes Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar.  You will also take a Bosphorus Cruise and visit the Spice Bazaar.
